For your convenience, we have compiled the top 20 frequently asked questions, regarding our detectable warning systems, in this FAQ. Questions regarding ADA requirements, truncated domes, and installation are all answered here. How much does each detectable warning tile weigh?

Our tactile walking surface indicators (TWSI) are lightweight weighing approximately 3lbs per square foot.

What are your detectable warning surfaces made of?

Each tactile paving ADA compliant tile is manufactured from engineered composite polymers which provide superior durability as well as slip resistance, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance.

These materials are used in both our wayfinding bars and truncated domes.

Where can I find installation instructions for the different detectable warning surfaces?

Does Access Tile meet the ADA/California Title 24 Requirements?

Yes! Access® Tile detectable warning plates are specifically designed and rigorously tested, to meet and exceed the ADA and California Title 24 requirements. Each Detectable Warning Tile has a truncated dome spacing of 2.35” and height of 0.20”. They are tested using the AASHTO HS20-44 wheel load test, as well as the ASTM Concrete tests, and the ASTM D tests.

Are Tactile Services Tiles available in different colors?

Each detectable warning paver is available in ten standard colors. These colors are Orchre Yellow (23594), Federal Yellow (33538), Safety Red (31350), Colonial Red (20109), Brick Red (22144), Ocean Blue (15187), Bright White (27925), Light Gray(26280), Dark Grey (36118), and Onyx Black (17038). Can Tactile Services Tile’s ADA compliant tiles withstand harsh winters?

We use Access® Tile’s ADA warning mats that are manufactured to be non-porous, protecting against water absorption during freeze-thaw cycles in winter months. The tiles are ADA compliant and can withstand all temperature and climate fluctuations associated with winter.

How does salt effect Tactile Services Tile Products?

Salt will not affect our tactile warning surfaces. Extensive testing has confirmed salt, chewing gum, and aerosol paint can be removed with cleaning solutions – contact us to learn more.

Can your detectable warning tiles be embedded in asphalt?

It is not recommended our detectable warning surfaces be installed in asphalt. The recommended solution, however, is to cut a small square of asphalt, pour concrete, and then embed the Tile in the wet set concrete.

What is the smallest tile that still meets the ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG?)

The latest draft of the ADAAG specifies tactile paving ADA compliant tiles begin 6” to 8” from the curb line, generally at the back of the curb, and extend 2’ in the direction of travel on the curb ramp. The width of the detectable warning tiles is specified to extend the width of the flat portion of the curb ramp. Please refer to the guidelines for all requirements specified by the ADAAG.

Are Tactile Services, LLC Products under warranty?

All of our replaceable detectable warning panels come with a 5-year warranty, starting from the date of sale. This written guarantee protects your ADA tiles against manufacturer’s defects, defective work, breakage, deformation.

Does cutting the Tiles affect my warranty?

Cutting any of our detectable warning products does not void the warranty. All our Tiles are replaceable TWSI can be cut to custom sizes, or in a radius, using a continuous rim diamond blade in a circular saw or mini-grinder. The use of a straight edge to guide your cuts is recommended, when appropriate

What are the standard sizes of ADA warning mats?

Normal sizes for our Tactile Walking Surface Indicators are (Length x Width): 12″x12″, 24″x24″, 24” x 36”, 24” x 48”, 24” x 60”, 36” x 48”,  36” x 60” and radius. Please see Specification and Technical Drawing.

What tools do I need to install my Tiles?

Access® Tile is extremely easy to install and replace. Required tools include standard masonry tools, a non-marring rubber mallet, and a ¼” radius finishing tool. These tools allow for a safe and easy install of any of our detectable warning pavers. What tool is required to remove the tamper-resistant fasterners?

Stainless-steel tamper resistant fasteners can be removed with a special bit called a T-27 Pin and Torx. 

How long does it take to install your ADA warning tiles?

All of our ADA compliant tiles can be installed in minutes and are designed to be lightweight and easy to handle.

Are your ADA Tiles American Made?

Yes, all of our detectable warning products are designed and manufactured in the USA.
