Fully ADA Compliant Truncated Dome Technology

Tactile Services, LLC is the world leader in ADA compliant truncated dome and wayfinding detectable warning tiles. This achievement is a result of progressive product development based on extensive market feedback from accessibility professionals, specifiers, installers and end users over the past 30 years. Our unparalleled industry experience allows us to incorporate the most current material and manufacturing technologies to develop a cost-effective yet durable detectable warning tile that installs with ease. We offer multiple configurations of detectability products to ensure each installation is compliant with federal and local requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Our detectable warning systems easily fit into any area which is required to have truncated dome installations. Detectable warning panels serve as a distinctive warning for individuals with visual impairments. The truncated dome pattern carefully placed on detectable warning panels alert individuals of potential dangers, such as street crossings and curb drop-offs. Every tactile paving tile we produce complies with the ISO9000 manufacturing standards and commitment to quality.

That’s the power of intelligent design and precision engineering.

Surface Applied Tiles

Our Surface Applied tiles (retrofit ADA tile)  are designed to install on top of any existing cured concrete surface where the implementation of a tactile detectable warning is required. Tile installation includes the use of our Tactile Bond and surface applied adhesive along with tamper proof stainless-steel Axius® Fasters for long-term durability. The Surface Applied tile offers a simple, more cost-effective alternative to wet set Cast in Place tiles; when the only requirement is to include ADA compliant tiles on an existing concrete surface where all other accessibility requirements are present. Surface Applied tiles can be easily cut, allowing the installer flexibility when dealing with unforeseen site conditions; cutting the tiles does not void the warranty.
Surface Applied tiles make sidewalk tile installation a breeze.

Wayfinding Tiles

Tactile Services, LLC directional wayfinding tiles (Directional Bar Tiles) are specifically designed to work in unison with the truncated dome tiles. These tactile walking surface indicators (TWSI) use a series of bar-shaped tactile surfaces, to create a detectable path. A tactile path allows access to all persons, between two spaces or locations. These paths are commonly designed with truncated dome tiles to indicate areas where the path begins, ends or splits so the visually disabled user can orient themselves to ensure they are following their desired path. These detectable warning tiles are extremely helpful in assisting the visually impaired navigate any space safely.

These come in both Surface Applied tiles and Replaceable Cast in Place tiles and can be used in place of ADA pavers. We have designed every directional wayfinding tile to maximize the functionality for guidance cane users.  Our unique “sound on cane contact”  feature, which uses sound reflection technology, creates an audible feedback every time the tile is tapped or swiped with a plastic tip guidance cane. Common uses of our directional wayfinding tiles are as pathways to transit stops, between buildings, to elevator call buttons, and more.

What is an ADA Tile?

ADA tiles are a generic term used for a truncated dome tactile detectable warning surface.  These truncated dome surfaces are designed to establish a physical cue for the visually disabled at the intersection of a pedestrian walkway and hazardous vehicular ways.  Sometimes called a tactile warning surface indicator (TWSI) this cue is proven to provide a signal unlike any other walking surface in the pedestrian environment.  The primary use of an ADA tile is to give a clear indicator when an individual is entering a hazardous vehicular way.  These ADA compliant tiles must be easily seen, felt underfoot and easily detected with guidance canes. The shape of truncated domes, aligned in an inline pattern, serve all these functions and have thus become industry standard. In order to enhance the visual effect of the surface, the color of the ADA tile must significantly contrast with the surrounding concrete surface. Each of Tactile Services, LLC tactile warning tiles are available in a variety of colors, to provide stark contrast in your project area. The sidewalk tile installation of Tactile Service, LLC products are designed to outlast heavy foot traffic and provide long-term, high preforming guidance.

All our detectable warning tiles are entirely ADA compliant and designed to meet the federal and state ADA standards. We’ve combined our proven polymer processing and material technologies, with intelligent design features, to create the most efficient, cost-effective detectable warning pavers on the market. To ensure the long term functionality, each tactile walking surface indicator (TWSI) is slip resistant, corrosion resistant, and abrasion resistant. All ADA warning surfaces have been rigorously tested using the AASHTO HS20-44 wheel load test, as well as various ASTM concrete tests and ASTM D tests. Individual truncated domes are tested further against wear and tear.

Each Tactile Services, LLC product is shipped from our distributors with truncated dome installation instructions to ensure installation procedures are followed correctly to create a compliant transition, along with surface applied adhesive. A compliant transition is especially helpful for individuals with visual impairments because truncated domes can be felt through your shoes comfortably. We have also incorporated sound reflection technology into each TWSI, so persons with guidance canes can navigate the area completely unaided. Our detectable warning tiles can be found in public and private spaces worldwide, but some common applications include transit platforms, curbs, and pedestrian crossings, parking areas, and escalator and stair approaches/landings.

If you are looking for ADA compliant tiles for use in Canada, then please see Kinesik, the Canadian distributor of our detectable warning tiles.

What are the ADA Regulations?

All Tactile Services, LLC truncated dome tiles are explicitly designed to be compliant with all ADA regulations. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990, and recognizes the rights of all persons, regardless of ability, in every area of daily public life. This act was created to fight discrimination of disabled persons within society, specifically when it comes to transportation, employment, and all areas accessible to the general public. Due to legislation, infrastructure, and development codes at the time, many American citizens did not have equal access to all spaces. Thanks to the ADA standards, this is in the process of changing.

One of these standards calls for the installation of truncated dome tiles in any pedestrian space open to the public; including walkways, transitional spaces, transit platforms, vehicular parking garages, and more. The ADA states, to be compliant, each detectable warning tile must adhere to stringent size and spacing specifications. All ADA warning tiles must contrast with the adjacent walkway, as well as meet numerous measurement specific standards. In addition to the Federal ADA standards Tactile Services, LLC complies with the California Title 24 Requirements, and the Public Right-of-Way (PROW).
